Sannes finished with a time of 78:89 seconds, which was 2:32 behind winner Svetlana Zhurova. She is scheduled to compete in the 1,000m race on Sunday. Sannes is a native of St. Paul, Minnesota, and has attended Salem Covenant Church in New Brighton, Minnesota. She also is a graduate of Minnehaha Academy.
Sannes was a member of the 1998 and 2002 U.S. Winter Olympic teams in speed skating, finishing eighth in the 1,500 meter race at the 2002 event. She began speed skating in 1988 after seeing the Calgary Olympics on television, including a clip on local speed skaters.
Wendell has scored three goals and one assist in the three games the women have played so far. Wendell scored two against Sweden in a 3-0 victory Saturday and netted a goal and assist in a 7-3 win over Finland on Tuesday. The team beat Germany 5-0 on Sunday.
The women will take on Sweden again in the semifinals scheduled for Friday evening and are favored to take on Canada in the finals Monday. They are the only two teams to ever play for gold in major international competitions.
