Applications Accepted for Benefits Clerk Position

CHICAGO, IL (January 19, 2006) – Applications are being accepted for a position as benefits clerk for the Evangelical Covenant Church. The position, which is available in early February, reports to the pension and insurance financial manager in the Bethany Benefits Department.

Responsibilities include distributing and explaining information on benefits programs; investigating and resolving questions regarding delivery and payment for services by contacting health care professionals and other service providers, benefit plan providers, employees and pastors; verifying and completing benefits enrollment forms; reviewing reports from plan providers to verify accuracy and resolve differences; computer entry of benefits-related data; maintaining files of enrollment forms and other documentation; sending enrollment, termination and payment information to benefit plan providers and other plan administrators; calculating the amount of employees’ paycheck deductions for benefits, submitting them to payroll and resolving discrepancies; producing reports of benefit enrollment and termination, benefit deductions, and plan participation; and processing HIPPA Certificates and Certificates of Creditable Coverage.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or general education degree (GED); three to six months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The successful candidate also must possess a working knowledge of database systems or demonstrate the ability to learn a database system quickly, and must possess accurate word/data processing skills. Previous data entry and customer service experience is preferred, as is the ability to speak and write in Spanish. This individual must have a commitment to the mission of the Evangelical Covenant Church and the purposes of the Bethany Benefits Department. The successful candidate also must have excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, and the ability to handle a variety of tasks and responsibilities in a professional and prompt manner, working with limited direction.
