CHICAGO, IL (December 20, 2005)  – Not only did the North Park University men’s  soccer team top its conference on the field, they also scored higher in  the classroom as well.

The men earned the Team Academic Award from the Soccer Coaches of  America Association for attaining a cumulative grade point average of  3.07. The Vikings were the only team in the College Conference of  Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) to score above a 3.0 GPA and only one of  65 NCAA men’s soccer teams at any level.
The distinction puts North Park in the same academic class as three  other Chicago universities that earned the distinction: De Paul, Loyola,  and Northwestern.
“This is the second consecutive year we received the NSCAA Team Academic  Award,” notes head coach John Born. “I feel it is by no coincidence that  within that time our team won two conference championships.
“Our guys know that when you start doing things right in one area of  your life, the high standard you set carries over to other parts,” Bord  adds. “We hope to continue our on-field winning ways, but fully expect  to maintain or surpass the success we achieved in the classroom.”
The team earned the school’s first-ever birth to the NCAA Tournament  this year.
