VOLGODONSK, RUSSIA (November 11, 2004) – Programming from the New Life Radio Satellite Network is now being broadcast over a conventional FM channel to residents of this community, thanks to a partnership involving Christian Radio for Russia (CRFR) and a group of local Christians.

In the past, Christians were not allowed to start a local radio station, according to CRFR. Local Christians recently completed an agreement with city communications authorities to rent an FM frequency to pick up the satellite signal from New Life Radio and rebroadcast it locally.

“Two years ago, terrorists blew up a residential apartment complex, killing hundreds of people, and the city has been in a state of despair,” said a spokesperson for CRFR. “With the startup of New Life Radio broadcasts this week, Christians are thankful that they have a radio voice 24 hours per day, proclaiming God’s word of encouragement in word and song, and offering Christ’s message of hope to the people living in this city.”

Christian Radio for Russia, which administers the New Life Radio network, is a non-profit ministry directed by several Evangelical Covenant Church pastors and volunteers with offices in Jamestown, New York. The network today broadcasts its programming throughout Russia, Ukraine and the former Soviet Union republics by direct-to-home satellite radio.
