WASHINGTON, D.C. (December 18, 2003) – The North Park University (NPU) women’s basketball team split games with a pair of Washington, D.C. schools, beating Trinity College 67-57 Monday night after losing 61-35 to Catholic University on Sunday afternoon.
By virtue of Monday’s victory, coach Jack Surridge’s team moved to 7-3 overall heading into Christmas break. The Vikings won’t play again until January 3 – a 2 p.m. non-league home game against Rockford College. Megan Slattery was the scoring star against Trinity, scoring 20 points while pulling down 11 rebounds. Laura Mount added 10 points and Tiffany Campbell had nine points as the Vikings took an early 11-3 lead and never trailed thereafter.
On Sunday, the Vikings couldn’t overcome a 25-11 deficit at the half against Catholic University despite game high totals of 19 points and 12 rebounds by Slattery.
For the season, Slattery leads the team in scoring (12.9 points per game) and rebounding (9.1). Campbell is averaging 11 points per game and shooting 81 percent from the foul line (21 for 26). Mount leads North Park with 27 steals and Shandrel Young has a team-high 30 assists.
In men’s basketball action, North Park dropped an 86-71 decision to Calumet College of St. Joseph’s on Monday night in a non-league contest played at the Hammond (IN) Civic Center.
Javier Sanchez scored 16 points to lead the Vikings, now 4-4 overall heading into Thursday’s 7:30 p.m. non-league home game against Albion College of Michigan.
