Bulletin from First Covenant’s Hope Sunday

First Covenant Church in Omaha had their Hope Sunday event on December 16th. We had decided on a goal of getting 70 children sponsored. The two weeks prior to our event Covenant Kids Congo videos were shown during the service to get people excited and prepared. On Hope Sunday, Karen Hallberg, director of mission mobilization and connection, spoke during the service and several more videos were shown. It was inspiring to hear from someone directly involved in the project. After her sermon, a mission team member spoke about her past experience sponsoring a child. Three different tables were decorated with fabric from Africa and set up with the child packets. Information was given to us in the welcome packet throughout the church to make it more easily accessible. We had three tables; one outside the sanctuary, one by the front door and one in our fellowship hall during coffee hour. We were impressed with the number of young adults and college aged people getting involved. The young adult group is also considering a mission trip to Congo in the future. Packets were available for several weeks after Hope Sunday so people could have more time to consider and pray about their involvement. We are pleased to say that forty kids have been sponsored so far but are still striving to sponsor all seventy.
