CHICAGO, IL (May 6, 2011) – Just three-tenths of a percent separate the Jesus People USA Covenant Church’s proposed playground center from qualifying for a $15,000 award to help renovate and upgrade the playground at the church’s homeless shelter.

Five awards will be given as part of a promotion co-sponsored by the KaBOOM! Website and the Dr. Pepper Snapple group, which are funding 103 grants totaling $2.1 million during the next three years as part of Let’s Play—a community partnership to get kids active nationwide. The five highest vote-getters will receive awards.

Covenanters are asked to go online and vote to support the playground project – time is of the essence as the deadline for voting ends at 11:59 p.m. EST on May 10. The church’s project at Cornerstone Community Outreach is one of 10 national finalists.

Click here to vote now – first-time visitors are asked to register (free) with the KaBOOM website to be able to vote. And vote each day until the deadline – individuals can vote once every 24 hours.

As many as 100 children living at Cornerstone Community Outreach use the playground, which is located on the ministry’s roof. The playground needs repair and new equipment as well as shading.
