BISHKEK, KYRGYSTAN (March 30, 2011) – David Husby, director of Covenant World Relief (CWR), says he was inspired that despite the current turmoil in Kyrgyzstan, he found donation boxes at local markets in which people could contribute to Japan relief work.

Husby has been traveling with Evangelical Covenant Church missionary Bob Shim for several days among remote villages in the country. Part of the trip has been visiting CWR projects such as the animal loan project that began five years ago.

“Approximately 120 families have received 5-10 sheep and goats on loan for two years,” Husby writes on the CWR Facebook page. The program has helped families build their own herds as well as provide employment, opening doors to new opportunities.

Missionary Retreat in Africa

KRIBI, CAMEROON – Brian Wiele, pastor of River Ridge Covenant Church in Olympia, Washington, was the main speaker during a recent retreat for Covenant missionaries in Africa.

The biennial retreat took place last week. Twenty-four missionaries from across four countries gathered for the retreat at the Hotel Ilomba.

The retreat theme this year was, “Do this and you will live.” Wiele spoke throughout the retreat on the commandment, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your mind, with all your soul and with all your strength. Do this and you will live.”
