GEMENA, DR CONGO (March 7, 2011) – A Congo Covenant Church (CEUM) pastor recently became the first member of the denomination elected president of the Provincial Synod of the Congo National Protestant Church.

The National Protestant Church is the umbrella organization through which 65 Protestant denominations communicate with the Democratic Republic of Congo government.

Langba Duale was elected February 18 at a meeting of the organization in Gemena. He will be president over the province (akin to a state) of Equateur.

Duale says the position will enable him to further develop the passion of all the churches for mission.

CEUM President Mossai Sanguma was elected general secretary in charge of medical work for the organization last August.
