The flooding has affected more than one million people, with more than 350,000 individuals displaced. Initial estimates indicate more than 250,000 acres of crop land have been negatively affected in the hardest-hit districts (states), with moderate to severe damage to more than 200,000 acres.
Most of the main roads have been damaged in those districts. All water wells were polluted due to the overflow of septic tanks, and there is a scarcity of drinking water.
Funds from CWR will pay for distribution of food and non-food items as well as constructing wells.
World Relief International and Alliance Development trust have worked together since the 2005 tsunami.
Frykman Recognized for Project to Benefit Poor
CHICAGO, IL – A company formed by Peter Frykman, great-grandson of Evangelical Covenant Church hymn writer and pastor Nils Frykman, is attracting national attention for its work in helping the poor around the world.
Driptech markets a low-cost irrigation system that is sold primarily to farms in India and China. Frykman created the system while working on his Ph.D. at Stanford University.
He began the work because of his concern about the scarcity of water available to farmers in developing countries. He formed the company following graduation.
Driptech has been recognized at the Tech Awards as a 2009 Laureate in the Economic Development category. The prestigious honor is bestowed upon top organizations using “technology for the benefit of humanity.”
A recent issue of the Wall Street Journal featured him as one of several young entrepreneurs who have started global firms.
