Memorial Service Wednesday for Dorothy Olson

WESTMINSTER, CO (November 1, 2010) – A memorial service for Dorothy (Nord) Olson, 85, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Tower Building at the Covenant Village of Colorado. The retired Evangelical Covenant Church missionary to Congo died Friday.Olson was born May 19, 1925, in Omaha, Nebraska. She attended Wayne State College and the University of Nebraska nurse training school.

She married Dr. Clitus Olson on March 20, 1948.

The couple was commissioned to be missionaries in 1950. They served in Congo at various times between 1950 and 1971. Their ministry included teaching nurses and doing surgery.

They also helped establish the Paul Carlson Program at the Institute Medical Evangelique at Loko, where their work included setting up the x-ray department.

In addition to her husband, survivors include her children, Paul Olson, Eleanor Bowman, Barbara Molina and Dr. Joan Harding.

Memorials may be designated to the Department of World Mission of the Evangelical Covenant Church, 8303 W. Higgins Road, Chicago, IL, 60631.
