CHICAGO, IL (October 27, 2010) – Kathy and Calla Holmgren will lead a Medical Teams International (MTI) team to Haiti January 9-23 to address ongoing needs.

They are seeking two nurses and two doctors who are members of Evangelical Covenant churches to join them.

Kathy and Calla are the wife and daughter of Cleveland Browns President Mike Holmgren. They are longtime Covenanters and graduates of North Park University.

David Husby, director of Covenant World Relief (CWR), is sponsoring the trip in conjunction with MTI. “They have been a key Covenant World Relief partner in Haiti since the earthquake in January. Medical Teams is a quality organization that is very effective in doing relief and development.”

Kathy is a nurse and serves on the MTI board. Calla is an obstetrician and will work with mothers and children in Haiti. Other medical professionals on the team will be given assignments in their respective areas of expertise. Nurses and physicians with previous experience working or living in foreign countries are preferred.

MTI has partnered with Covenant ministries elsewhere. Kathy and Calla traveled on a 2006 medical mission trip to Congo that was co-sponsored by the Paul Carlson Partnership in 2006 (accompanying photo shows Calla at work during that trip).

Medical professionals interested in participating should email either Husby or Chrissy Palmerlee or call CWR offices at 773-907-3301.
