LA CORUÑA, SPAIN (July 15, 2010) – Vida Nueva Covenant Church recently opened the only evangelical bookstore in all of Northwestern Spain, a region of roughly six million people, says pastor and Evangelical Covenant Church missionary Rob Reed.

The church has named the store CREED (Resource Center for Evangelization, Teaching and Discipleship for SPAIN). The bookstore is primarily web-based, but Reed says the physical site gives people the opportunity to visit and can also serve as a training center.

As a resource center, the store is also publishing some books. “We are responsible for all the publishing and distribution of Alpha materials in Spain,” Reed says. “We also have translated and edited a book on church planting by Joel Comiskey, as well as some other resources under our name CREED.”

Vida Nueva has developed a close relationship with the Alpha Course and expects to help train leaders from more than 300 churches in the next two years. The goal is to reach more than 20,000 people, says Reed.

Reed says Spain is one of the least evangelized countries in the world. “Only two percent of the people are followers of Christ.” For many Spaniards, evangelicals are considered to be a sect and not part of the true church.

Reed says he believes the store ultimately will be self-sustaining but it needs additional financial support as it launches. The church is a Friends of World Mission (FOWM) focus. Anyone interested in donating can send contributions to FOWM 193, Spain Resource Center, Covenant World Mission, 5101 N. Francisco, Chicago, IL 60625.
