ST. PAUL, MN (June 18, 2010) – Those attending the 125th Annual Meeting of the Evangelical Covenant Church will have an opportunity to work together on Saturday morning next week in a project called Local Impact, a service project at an elementary school that serves a diverse and disadvantaged community.

Local Impact will be held at Farnsworth Aerospace School, a pre-K-8 public school, located just three miles from downtown and across the street from First Covenant Church.

Sixty percent of the students speak English as a second language and many are “working feverishly to stay away from gangs,” says Farnsworth principal Troy Vincent. First Covenant has tutored students and produced musicals at the school.

People of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to participate in Local Impact, which will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., the same time that delegates will be meeting during the last business session. Projects include laying sod and planting flowers, painting mural inside the school, and putting together academic games for families to use so they can practice reading and math skills.

Conferees who are interested are asked to contact the registration desk at the Annual Meeting. Shuttle service will be available from the Crowne Plaza to the service site. A continental breakfast will be served.

For more information, call or email Jane Hutchins-Peterson, project coordinator, at 612-810-6323.

The project is one of several “E2: Engage and Equip” activities and workshops. Most are available to both conferees and delegates. For more information, visit the Annual Meeting website.
