BATAVIA, IL (May 14, 2010) – Residents at Michealsen Health Center, the skilled-nursing facility at The Holmstad, a Covenant Retirement Community, think it is a great place to live, according to a nationwide survey that sought opinions of nursing home residents about their communities.

The research firm Holleran conducted the satisfaction surveys at 309 homes in 35 states.

Given the choice to select a nursing home, 95 percent of the respondents would choose The Holmstad once again and 97 percent would recommend the facility to families and friends, according to the survey.

The facility ranked significantly higher than other homes on several benchmarks – The Holmstad’s ability to fulfill the terms of its residency agreement, the appearance of its grounds and landscaping, and the convenience and availability of visitor parking.

Health Care Administrator Jeanne Heid-Grubman emphasizes that the collaborative approach involving staff as well residents and families plays an important role in maintaining a high level of satisfaction.

Seventy-five percent of Michealsen’s residents and family members responded to the survey, which mirrored the rates at other facilities across the country. More than 82 percent of the respondents have lived at Michealsen two years or less. The average age of more than half of the respondents ranged from 86 to 95 years.

The Holmstad is a nationally accredited not-for-profit continuing care retirement community administered by Covenant Retirement Communities Inc. on behalf of the Board of Benevolence of the Evangelical Covenant Church.
