Devotions for Holy Week &#8211; Easter Sunday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--StartFragment--><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cChrist is risen!<span>\u00a0 <\/span>He is risen indeed!\u201d<span>\u00a0 <\/span>This joyful proclamation dates back at least to St. John Chrysostom, a Church Father from the fourth century.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>It was included in one of his Easter sermons that is still read today in Orthodox churches around the world.<span>\u00a0<!--more--><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span>This is the most important day, and the most important event, in Christian faith:<span>\u00a0 <\/span>the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!<span>\u00a0 <\/span>The consequences of our Lord overcoming death reverberate throughout the universe, and eternity.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Death no longer has the final say!<span>\u00a0 <\/span>We have been restored to God!<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Once again we can have that intimate relationship with God Himself that was fractured in the Garden of Eden since the time of Adam.<span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>We no longer need to fear evil, sin, death, and the devil.<span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>God declared, \u201cBehold, I make all things new.\u201d (Rev. 21:5)<span>\u00a0 <\/span>This is more than a promise; it is a reality!<span>\u00a0 <\/span>New life is ours, through Jesus Christ himself.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>We never need to be the same again.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>We can rise to new life with Christ through His resurrection.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cThanks be to God for His indescribable gift!\u201d (II Cor. 9:15)<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Speak this Call to Worship out loud, and sense the excitement of today, Resurrection Day:<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Christ is risen!<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>He is risen indeed!<\/strong><span><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong><\/span><strong>Alleluia!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Praise the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>He has made us Easter people by raising Jesus from the dead.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Rejoice, then, even in your distress.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>He has called us from darkness to light.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Christ is risen!<span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>He is risen indeed!<\/strong><span><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong><\/span><strong>Alleluia!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Death has been defeated!<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>The grave has lost its grip!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The power of sin has been broken!<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>Christ the Lord is risen<\/strong>!<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Hope is reborn!<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>Life is eternal!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Love is invincible!<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gif<\/strong>t!<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Christ is risen!<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>He is risen indeed!<\/strong><span><strong>\u00a0 href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/40\/2009\/03\/jerusalem-76.jpg\" rel=\"prettyPhoto[1145]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1159\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/40\/2009\/03\/jerusalem-76-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><!--StartFragment--><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The service was packed\u2014not a seat left anywhere on the grounds.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>I was blessed to be in the first row of worshipers, above these young people who were crammed onto the steps.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/40\/2009\/03\/jerusalem-86.jpg\" rel=\"prettyPhoto[1145]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1160\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/40\/2009\/03\/jerusalem-86-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><!--StartFragment--><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Order of worship for the sunrise service.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a class=\"MsoNormal\">Easter worship at the Holy Sepulcher Church.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>It was jammed here as well; you could hardly move through the crowds, it was so tightly packed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/40\/2009\/03\/jerusalem-143.jpg\" rel=\"prettyPhoto[1145]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1166\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/40\/2009\/03\/jerusalem-143-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/40\/2009\/03\/jerusalem-153.jpg\" rel=\"prettyPhoto[1145]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1167\" service at the Holy Sepulcher Church were quite different from the Garden Tomb.<span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Beautiful, formal, stately\u2014and the choir sang the \u201cHallelujah Chorus\u201d from\u00a0Messiah, just as we often do at Hilmar Covenant Church on Easter Sunday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/40\/2009\/03\/jerusalem-162.jpg\" rel=\"prettyPhoto[1145]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1168\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/40\/2009\/03\/jerusalem-162-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a>!<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/40\/2009\/03\/jerusalem-172.jpg\" rel=\"prettyPhoto[1145]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" all very dramatic, perfect for the grandest drama of all:<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Christ\u2019s resurrection!<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a photo was taken from inside the Garden Tomb, looking out to the world.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Maybe this <em>is<\/em> the view that Jesus had when he was resurrected on the first day of the week!<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Whether it is or not, the message on the door says it all:<span>\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cHE IS RISEN!\u201d<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Hallelujah!<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Amen.<\/p>\n<p><!--StartFragment--> <!--EndFragment--><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>Prayer for Today:<\/strong> \u00a0O God, who for our redemption gave your only-begotten Son to the death of the cross, and by this glorious resurrection delivered us from the power of our enemy:\u00a0 Grant me so to die daily in sin, that I may evermore live with
