This past Sunday I, Katie, had the opportunity to participate in person in the worship service at Fuente de Salvacion Covenant Church. I think the last time I participated in person was back in January before the peak of infections when everything went back online.<\/p>\n

The church has been meeting together, with a limited number of people, social distancing and masks as a way of caring for one another when we are still very much in the midst of a pandemic. I can’t tell you the joy it brought to my heart to see friends in person, to have conversations, to sing and pray together. It was truly a time of reconnecting.<\/p>\n

After the service I was invited to stay for a lunch and leader’s meeting. They were discussing steps forward in a new ministry initiative that is taking place in a displaced community nearby. A group of leaders from the church has spent a year being trained by the Biblical Seminary of Colombia in a certificate program called “Faith and Displacement.” This program helps churches identify how to serve the displaced communities in their midst. A pastor, Carlos, of another Covenant Church in the city who has worked 17 years with a displaced community in Granizal was invited to share his church’s experience. Cristina, who led the project, Community Transformation for Peace was also invited to share.<\/p>\n

We had the opportunity to pray for those leaders who are facilitating this new ministry at the Fuente de Salvacion church.<\/p>\n

I also had the opportunity to meet with the children’s ministry team and hear their plans and encourage them as they are focusing on the theme of building peace this trimester. I was there from 10am to 4:30pm and came away exhausted (not used to being with people that long \ud83d\ude42 and at the same time highly encouraged.<\/p>\n
