If there is a group of people I genuinely admire it is teachers. As a child I, Katie, would play school and loved giving out homework to imaginary students. As I’ve grown up my respect for the teaching profession continues to grow. That’s why it was such a joy last week to be able to go visit the local Covenant elementary school in Medellin. CEIP currently has 80 students and offers a well-rounded, values-based education. The teachers at CEIP give it 110%. They make their own decorations for the school, they meet with parents to make sure students are on track and to deal with any family issues, they walk alongside their students in their developmental process. The context\/neighborhood where the school is located is rough. The social issues are many and complex. It is not an easy place to run a school. But together the administration and teachers make it happen. And to see the respect and love the students have for their school and teachers is beautiful.<\/p>\n

Diana is an amazing teacher who has been working at CEIP for over 20 years<\/p><\/div>\n

Last month I was able to see first-hand how dedicated the teachers at the elementary schools in Barranquilla are and the impact they are having in their schools. This month I was yet again reminded of the important role that education plays and how teachers truly are heroes.
