{"id":2649,"date":"2014-11-07T10:40:47","date_gmt":"2014-11-07T15:40:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/ekstrand\/?p=2649"},"modified":"2014-11-07T10:40:47","modified_gmt":"2014-11-07T15:40:47","slug":"paul-carlson-remembered-in-congo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/ekstrand\/2014\/11\/paul-carlson-remembered-in-congo\/","title":{"rendered":"Paul Carlson remembered in Congo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cThere is no love greater than this, that a man lay down his life for another,\u201d said James Fischer the preacher for the CEUM\u2019s Paul Carlson commemoration this past Sunday, Nov 2.\u00a0 In his message based on the text, John 15:12-17, Fischer challenged the large congregation to live out Jesus\u2019 summary of all the commandments.\u00a0 \u201cThis is my commandment, that you love one another.\u00a0 \u2026as I have loved you.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2640\" style=\"width: 277px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/ekstrand\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2014\/11\/James-preaching-w-Texa-320x200.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2640\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2640\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/ekstrand\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2014\/11\/James-preaching-w-Texa-320x200.jpg\" alt=\"James Fischer preaching\" width=\"267\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2640\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">James Fischer preaching<\/p><\/div>\n<p>To illustrate how we have been loved, Fischer asked each attendee to reflect on those who have had the most impact on our lives.\u00a0 \u201cRemember those people by name and personally reflect on what they did that impacted you.\u00a0 In my own life I \u00a0think the reason for their significant impact on me was because they loved me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2644\" style=\"width: 277px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/ekstrand\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2014\/11\/processional-320x200.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2644\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2644\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/ekstrand\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2014\/11\/processional-320x200.jpg\" alt=\"banners in the processional\" width=\"267\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2644\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">banners in the processional<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The three and a half hour church service began with a slow processional with banners representing the CEUM and the Covenant.\u00a0 A combined choir accompanied the banners.\u00a0 During the service honorary President Duale Lengena gave a long tribute to Paul recounting his call to serve in Congo, his passion to not just care physically<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2641\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/ekstrand\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2014\/11\/Papa-Duale-praying.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2641\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-2641\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/ekstrand\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2014\/11\/Papa-Duale-praying-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Pastor Duale praying\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2641\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pastor Duale praying<\/p><\/div>\n<p>for others when he was in Congo but also for all aspects of the local church and conference, his decision to return to the hospital to care for his patients after getting his wife Lois and children safely across the river into the Central African Republic and then the events of his capture, imprisonment and martyrdom.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2651\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/ekstrand\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2014\/11\/IMG_2168-320x200.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2651\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-2651\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/ekstrand\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2014\/11\/IMG_2168-320x200-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Rev.
