16 sec. \u00a0The race is from Storm Lake to Marathon, IA. \u00a0Marathon is about 35 min from Pocahontas. \u00a0It was a workout and I&#8217;m tired. \u00a0We started at 6AM with a temp of about 66-70 and when I finished it was warm, probably mid 80s. \u00a0There was a light to moderate breeze from the SSE which was helpful for the heat and pushing us to the finish line the last 8 miles. \u00a0Being a marathon in rural Iowa we run through open spaces on straight roads with little change in elevation and little shade.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2012\/06\/Pete-running1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-1757\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2012\/06\/Pete-running1-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>I felt good during the first half of the race and then started to slow down. \u00a02hrs 9 min the first half and 2hrs 37 min the second. \u00a0A bit slower that I hoped, but what I really wanted to do was to finish and I DID. \u00a0I ran the entire way only stopping to take water and fill my water bottle. \u00a0I was achy the last ~8 miles, but grateful for those running with me which kept me going. \u00a0As runners speed up and slow down some of us were constantly changing places. \u00a0I did have about a 4-5 mile stretch though without a particular person alongside me. \u00a0During that I just pressed on.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1754\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2012\/06\/Pete-Wendell-from-Ontario.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1754\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-1754\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2012\/06\/Pete-Wendell-from-Ontario-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1754\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pete &amp; Wendell after the race<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I enjoyed running with several different people. \u00a0Wendell from Ontario, Canada who has run a marathon in all 50 states plus the provinces. \u00a0Ryan from Northfield, MN a senior at Iowa State in political science. \u00a0He did the Twin Cities marathon a week ago. \u00a0Gloriana from Lawrence, KS who was also running her first marathon. \u00a0Kelly an experience marathoner from Tulsa who pushed me through the last 1.2 miles in good shape. \u00a0She&#8217;s just behind me in the photo above. \u00a0What is also interesting is that this race attracted quite a number of runners, at least a dozen, who are Marathon Maniacs and plan to run a marathon on South Dakota tomorrow afternoon. \u00a0Crazy indeed! \u00a0Overhearing their conversations they were all about where they could run doubles and how far along they were towards completing 50 in 50 states. \u00a0A whole different culture around these races. \u00a0Not for me.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-report-this\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/ekstrand?moderation_action=report_form&object_type=post&object_id=1751&width=250&height=300\" class=\"thickbox\" title=\"Report This Post\">Report This Post<\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I did it. \u00a0I completed the Marathon to Marathon this morning in 4 hrs 46min &amp;
