The Lycce Vanette girls school opened in this September. The CEUM wants to empower girls to be future leaders in their community and in the church. Too often girls have not had the same opportunities to go to school as boys. The CEUM is addressing this need. Lycee Vanette specializes in Business Skills and Computer Training.
This year there are 20 girls in 7th grade. Next year the school plans to open 8th and 9th grades. Several girls shared why they chose to study at Lycee Vanette.
• I wanted to study at a girl’s school because it would be a good environment to learn.
• I chose a CEUM girl’s school because I thought I would receive a good education and then it would help me get a job.
• I decided to study at Lycee Vanette because I feel I will learn well, get a job and be able to help my family.
Lycee Vanette is named in honor of Vanette Thorsell who served in education in Congo for her entire career. We were privileged to serve with her early in our career. We remember fondly once when we traveled with her and visited offices of the Dept of Education in Kinshasa. Almost everyone she saw stood and greeted her with great respect as she had taught many of them over her long career.
We invite you to help train and empower girls at Lycee Vanette. Donations may be sent to:

It’s great to see “Auntie Van” honoured in this way. I often went to visit her and “Auntie Myrt” (Myrtle Larson) and they would spend hours with me talking and playing board games. She was a great friend to children and laid the foundation for many Christian lives.
