{"id":520,"date":"2010-11-02T18:25:43","date_gmt":"2010-11-02T22:25:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/delp\/?p=520"},"modified":"2010-11-26T18:25:40","modified_gmt":"2010-11-26T22:25:40","slug":"isla-corazon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/delp\/?p=520","title":{"rendered":"Isla Corazon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2010\/11\/islacorazon18.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-521\" title=\"islacorazon18\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2010\/11\/islacorazon18.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"405\" height=\"304\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you read our last blog post you know we visited Isla Corazon (Heart Island) in the Bahia of Caraquez in the west side of Ecuador.\u00a0 Visiting this island was our best experience yet here in Ecuador and we have had a lot great experiences.\u00a0 It is basically an island of Mangroves.\u00a0 Mangroves are the type of tree in which the roots are above ground and you can see them spread out.\u00a0 We had the opportunity to get a tour of the island taking a canoe trip through the Mangroves.\u00a0 It was awesome!\u00a0 Isla Corazon is also the area of the largest population of frigate birds in the western coast of South America.<\/p>\n<p>It was really an awesome experience.\u00a0 I describe it as going to the zoo and seeing exotic animals, but not actually being at a zoo and it actually being real life.\u00a0 Some of the highlights were seeing tiny crabs crawl up the Mangrove roots out of the water and looking like giant spiders.\u00a0 Also, seeing the White Ibis with it&#8217;s long beak trying to get the crabs out of their holes with it.\u00a0 Also, seeing the red-bellied frigates also was really, really neat.<\/p>\n<p>The coolest part of this whole thing was learning about how the island is being maintained.\u00a0 Basically, the local fishermen in the area have formed an organization for the promotion and sustenance of the Mangroves and the Island.\u00a0 They don&#8217;t really get a lot of government sponsoring;
