Many families are forced to walk for hours to find the nearest source of water, but often this water is harmful and dirty. Ethiopia is one of the poorest countries in the world; it is also a country with one of the lowest standards of living. 10% of children are not expected to live past age 5, and a major cause of this is poor hygiene and the lack of safe water.<\/p>\n<p>Through our partnership, Water 1st hopes to provide 3,050 people in the community with clean water and improved hygiene through the construction of a deep well, six public water points, and a water storage tank.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2426\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2426\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2426\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2012\/02\/Ethiopia-Water-1st-Completed-Water-Tank-300x203.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"203\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/cwr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2012\/02\/Ethiopia-Water-1st-Completed-Water-Tank-300x203.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/cwr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2012\/02\/Ethiopia-Water-1st-Completed-Water-Tank.jpg 565w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-2426\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Completed water tank &#8211; February 2012<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The construction of the 20,000 gallon water storage tank began in November (above), and we recently received the good news that it has been completed (left)!<\/p>\n<p>In addition to building the well, water points, and storage tank, the community has been receiving hygiene education, focusing on the use of latrines, frequent hand washing, and hygienic disposal of household and animal waste.
