{"id":1410,"date":"2014-12-03T15:50:54","date_gmt":"2014-12-03T21:50:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/clauson\/?p=1410"},"modified":"2018-02-05T18:43:27","modified_gmt":"2018-02-06T00:43:27","slug":"womens-retreat-celebrating-first-year-anniversary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/clauson\/2014\/12\/03\/womens-retreat-celebrating-first-year-anniversary\/","title":{"rendered":"Celebrating first year anniversary with women&#8217;s retreat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the biggest joys I have experienced this last year in ministry has been the group of women God has formed for fellowship, learning, growing, healing, worshipping and serving together. \u00a0Just over a year ago, four Covenant women approached Patty Restrepo and me about the possibility of gathering women together from different Covenant churches in the Oaxaca valley in order to grow and serve together. \u00a0Little did we know at the time all that God had planned for this group of women!<\/p>\n<p>A group of 15-20 women from the valley Covenant churches and a few from\u00a0other denominations, has\u00a0been meeting every other Thursday morning, with Patty and I hosting in our homes, for a time of meditating on the Word, fellowship and training in a specific area of ministry. \u00a0Currently, we are going through Mending the Soul, a program\u00a0that seeks to bring healing from abuse, and God has indeed been at work in each of the women. \u00a0Patty and I greatly appreciate your prayers for us as we lead the women\u00a0in the process of allowing God&#8217;s Spirit to speak truth into our lives as we identify different ways we&#8217;ve been abused or have abused, as well as the effects that has had on our understanding of who we are and our relationships. \u00a0It has been an emotionally and spiritually difficult time for us all, but God is good and we trust Him to heal the broken-hearted and break the chains of oppression. The women also had the opportunity to share some of what they are learning about harmful and healthy relationships at the Peace Fair\u00a0and Service\u00a0we had in October.<\/p>\n<figure the\u00a0SIM funds we received from Women&#8217;s Ministry in the U.S., with a weekend retreat up in a cabin in the mountains. \u00a0What a gift that was for us all! \u00a0Besides our regular time of reflecting on the Word, we had many special times to connect with each other and with God.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/clauson\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/12\/IMG_0744.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1412\" prayer walk through the woods, where God&#8217;s creation and Word spoke in powerful ways. \u00a0We also had many\u00a0opportunities\u00a0to have fun and laugh together!<\/p>\n<p><a \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Lisandro had the idea that the men could cook and serve the women our food.\u00a0Many of the women expressed how meaningful that was to them, as the gender roles in the culture here\u00a0are quite rigid due to strong\u00a0machismo.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/clauson\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/12\/IMG_0735.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\"
