CHICAGO, IL (February 13, 2012) – A search process is under way for a new executive minister of the Department of the Ordered Ministry of the Evangelical Covenant Church, following the announcement of David W. Kersten’s nomination to become the new dean of North Park Theological Seminary.

Kersten was elected to his current position during the 2001 Annual Meeting. If his nomination is approved by delegates attending this year’s Annual Meeting, Kersten will assume his new responsibilities August 1. Click here to read an earlier story on his selection.

By-laws call for the Board of the Ordered Ministry to serve as the nominating committee, presenting its recommendation to the Covenant Executive Board and the annual meeting of the Covenant Ministerium before final action by the Covenant Annual Meeting. The board hopes to have a nominee to present for this year’s Annual Meeting June 21-23 in Irvine, California.

Tom Ek, board chair, also will serve as chair of the search process.

The executive minister oversees the work of the department, which focuses on clergy credentialing, care and discipline, and vocational development. The executive minister also serves on the Council of Administrators and Council of Superintendents.

The board invites anyone to respond to three questions by March 5:

  • What personal attributes do you think are important for the person holding this position?
  • What priorities do you think are important to pursue?
  • What names for consideration do you have for the committee?

Responses may be emailed to Ordered Ministry Search or to Tom Ek. Additional information will be available on the Covenant website.
