According to Fast Company, Gruenewald made the list for guiding the development of the YouVersion digital application, which “reimagines the Bible for the digital age, letting users record reflections, choose reading plans, and share passages online.”
The application has been downloaded more than 22 million times since it was launched in 2008. It has become the No. 1 downloaded Bible application today. The application, which is free, is published in 41 languages and contains 113 translations.
More than 25 percent of the application’s users have their smartphones set to a language other than English. Korean is the fastest-growing language.
Gruenewald was ranked No. 97 on the list. Wadah Khanfar, the creator of the Al Jazeera news network, ranked No. 1. Others on the list include Arianna Huffington and Oprah Winfrey.
Gruenewald oversees the church’s technology outreach, media design and communications teams as well as the operations that provide other churches with free tools and resources. He joined the LifeChurch leadership team in 2001. Prior to that, he started and sold two technology companies.
