In partnership with volunteers from other agencies, the church sold nearly 1,800 pumpkins over two weeks, Pastor Linda Williams said today.
The church has engaged in mission and ministry for more than 130 years. In making the announcement, Williams said, “On All-Saints Day, it seems honorable and fitting to announce Covenant Congregational Church of Waltham, Massachusetts, has added its name to the Roll Call of saints and churches that have gone before.”
Even though they will no longer meet, the congregation’s ministry will continue, however. “The church has celebrated a long and rich heritage, so it was with profound sadness, but great courage the church moved to make this momentous decision to become a Living Legacy,” Hamilton said.
Living Legacy churches contribute the revenues from sale of their assets to church planting in the conference and denomination.
The church will hold a Celebration/Legacy Dinner at 6 p.m. on November 13. The final worship service will be conducted at 10:15 a.m. on November 21.
