STILLMAN VALLEY, IL (August 9, 2012) – An Ultimate Frisbee tournament organized by North Park University sophomore Dan Raymond raised $2,300 on Saturday to benefit the family of his friend, Dave Acton, who is fighting cancer.

Both men are members of Valley Covenant Church, where Raymond also is serving as a worship and music intern for the summer.

Five teams from around the area participated. Most of Valley Covenant’s team, the Slipped Disks, were first-time players, including youth pastor Kevin Drehmel, who began serving at the church just four days earlier.

Raymond is a member of the Lost Boys Ultimate Frisbee team at North Park, which is highly ranked. His experience with the team gave him the idea for the tournament.

Money was raised from individual registration fees and other contributions. Raymond wasn’t surprised at the good turnout. “Dave is a great friend to a lot of people,” he said.

Pastor Rick Lindholtz praised Raymond, saying, “Dan exemplifies North Park’s goal of preparing students for lives of significance and service.”
