{"id":551,"date":"2010-12-21T03:17:23","date_gmt":"2010-12-21T08:17:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/ziegelbaur\/?p=551"},"modified":"2010-12-21T03:17:23","modified_gmt":"2010-12-21T08:17:23","slug":"divinely-inspired-shopping","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/ziegelbaur\/?p=551","title":{"rendered":"Divinely Inspired Shopping?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday I went shopping with friends.\u00a0 There&#8217;s a merchants fair going on downtown in which stores and vendors have their products displayed in tents in a large plaza area.\u00a0 I wasn&#8217;t looking for anything specific, but did find some jewelry made by local artisans.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But my favorite tent was LAKING, a material store.\u00a0 Maybe it reminds me of shopping with my mom; we&#8217;d go into a fabric store\u00a0and look around because Mom used to &#8220;love to just smell the goods&#8221;.\u00a0 While browsing the display of sale items (6 yard pieces for about $7.00) I found at least 2 pieces I loved but didn&#8217;t really need.\u00a0 Knowing\u00a0I could either use them\u00a0or give them as gifts, I bought them.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2010\/12\/cloth-LAKing.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-552\" title=\"cloth LAKing\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2010\/12\/cloth-LAKing.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"287\" height=\"187\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Later that afternoon I got a surprise visit from the two Congolese refugee women I&#8217;d written about earlier, Ruth and Gabrielle.\u00a0 They came bringing me a sheet and pillowcase made from\u00a0the tie dye cloth that they make.\u00a0 It was their Christmas present to me.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2010\/12\/cloth-tie-dye.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-553\" title=\"cloth tie dye\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2010\/12\/cloth-tie-dye.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"286\" height=\"194\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I offered them cool\u00a0water to drink as we sat and visited.\u00a0 &#8220;What are you doing today?&#8221;\u00a0I asked them. \u00a0And Ruth plainly stated, &#8220;We came to ask you for a Merry Christmas.&#8221;\u00a0 I&#8217;d suspected some reciprocation was desired, and was anticipating the more cultural beating around the bush before finding out what they were hoping for.\u00a0 &#8220;We don&#8217;t even have new clothes to give our children.&#8221; Ruth stated plainly.\u00a0 Christmas is one time\u00a0in the year for\u00a0girls to get new dresses.\u00a0 Immediately I thought of the 2 pieces of cloth\u00a0I&#8217;d bought that day.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2010\/12\/Ruth-and-Gabrielle1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-554\" title=\"Ruth and Gabrielle\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2010\/12\/Ruth-and-Gabrielle1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"286\" height=\"220\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Would some cloth help you?&#8221;\u00a0 I asked.\u00a0 They were overwhelmed!\u00a0 I went into the house and brought out a couple of 6 yard pieces to give them.\u00a0 I\u00a0explained to them that I&#8217;d bought cloth that I didn&#8217;t need and wasn&#8217;t sure what to do with.\u00a0 But hearing their need,\u00a0it became clear to me that the cloth had been purchased for these two women.\u00a0\u00a0 We were all moved by that realization: they, by the blessing of provision;
