Rain Forest International School is built in the rain forest.\u00a0 The beauty of it is having so many trees around.\u00a0 The difficulty is also having so many trees.\u00a0 Trees drop not only leaves, which is not a big deal, but they drop twigs, sticks, and limbs which can be a big deal when they drop on buildings, walls, shelters or vehicles.<\/p>\n

\"The<\/a>
The shelter, the wall and the well at risk of being damaged<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

One branch was dropping things on a shelter near the garage, punching holes in the roof, and risked damaging a water well if larger chunks fell.\u00a0 So Ron decided it was time to bring down a branch in a controlled manner.\u00a0 He was hoping to cut down the branch while avoiding damage to \u00a0at least 3 things.<\/p>\n

  1. the well<\/li>\n
  2. the shelter and wall it\u2019s up against<\/li>\n
  3. Body parts of any humans assisting in the work.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

     <\/p>\n

    A few days early they set up the scaffolding to reach the branch.<\/p>\n

    One of the guards volunteered to attach a strap to the branch so the tractor could pull it in the desired direction.<\/p>\n

    Then suddenly one day from my office I heard the sound of a saw, and then the branch fall.\u00a0 Didn\u2019t get to watch it happen\u2026 and probably glad I didn\u2019t.\u00a0 So all we have are \u201cbefore\u201d and \u201cafter\u201d photos.<\/p>\n

    It didn\u2019t go exactly as planned \u2013 the saw got stuck, the tractor tried to re=adjust, the strap moved, and Ron\u2019s just glad he didn\u2019t get hurt!\u00a0 He ended the day saying, \u201cTwo out of 3\u2019s not bad\u201d<\/p>\n

    Fallen branch damaged the shelter – wall. well and Ron intact!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

    He missed the well<\/p>\n

    He didn\u2019t hurt any body parts<\/p>\n

    But the shelter didn\u2019t fare so well.\u00a0 Fortunately there was no damage to the wall, or anything inside the shelter.<\/p>\n
