Trips USA: NC, OH"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When Ron discovered that Colombus, OH is on the way from Waxhaw, NC to Grand Rapids, he hatched a brilliant idea. \u00a0\u00a0He needed to get something to NC, and we had a conference to attend near Colombus, OH. \u00a0so he decided to &#8220;kill 2 birds with one stone&#8221; by combining trips.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2167\" id=\"caption-attachment-2167\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ron builds a crate on the trailer around a metal lathe he&#8217;s sending to Cameroon<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">\u00a0Ron wanted to send a few items to Rain Forest International School &#8211; items he will need for his job as Director of Technical Services or as Industrial Arts teacher. \u00a0One item is a metal lathe that he has had for many years. \u00a0 It is very heavy, so Ron decided to build a crate for shipping around it, on the trailer he&#8217;d use to transport it.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2168\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2168\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2014\/06\/2014-05-crate-OH-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2168\" alt=\"2014-05 crate OH 2\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2014\/06\/2014-05-crate-OH-2-300x224.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" id=\"caption-attachment-2168\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The crate is packed and ready to nail shut<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>When the crate was done, and trailer put back together, Ron and Michelle headed out on a road trip to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jaars.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">JAARS in Waxhaw, NC<\/a>. \u00a0JAARS, a service of Wycliffe Bible Translators, send out containers to Cameroon about 3 or 4 times a year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2014\/06\/2014-05-crate-OH-JAARS.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2172\" alt=\"2014-05 crate OH JAARS\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2014\/06\/2014-05-crate-OH-JAARS.jpg\" width=\"287\" height=\"176\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Along the way they took in some of the beautiful sights &#8212; including the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nps.gov\/neri\/planyourvisit\/nrgbridge.htm\" target=\"_blank\">New River Gorge Bridge<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2169\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2169\" style=\"width: 259px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2014\/06\/2014-05-crate-OH-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2169\" alt=\"2014-05 crate OH 3\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2014\/06\/2014-05-crate-OH-3.jpg\" width=\"259\" height=\"194\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2169\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">New River Gorge Bridge (photo compliments of someone who posted this on the internet)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>They delivered the crate to JAARS, and did a bit of shopping for more things to send to RFIS. \u00a0Then Michelle caught a train for PA where she met up with a friend from RFIS, and Ron drove up to OH for the annual meeting of our denominational region. \u00a0Meanwhile, I rode with some wonderful folks from one of the Grand Rapids area Covenant churches to meet him there. \u00a0We heard great reports of church planting and other activities in the Great Lakes region of the Covenant.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2014\/06\/2014-05-crate-OH-lehmans.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2173\" alt=\"2014-05 crate OH lehmans\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2014\/06\/2014-05-crate-OH-lehmans-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/ziegelbaur\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2014\/06\/2014-05-crate-OH-lehmans-300x225.jpg 300w, home we took in more sights and errands. \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lehmans.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lehmans hardware store<\/a>\u00a0in Kidron, OH boasts &#8220;providing non-electric alternatives since 1955.&#8221; \u00a0We have appreciated shopping for lamps, stoves, and other useful things at that store since working in Congo where non-electric alternatives were even more important to our life. \u00a0While choosing accessories for our Kerosene lamp we met a manager who gave us more history of the store. \u00a0When we said we&#8217;re missionaries in Cameroon, he told us the store was founded by a man who had served as a missionary in Africa many years ago.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2014\/06\/2014-05-crate-OH-4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2170\" alt=\"2014-05 crate OH 4\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2014\/06\/2014-05-crate-OH-4-300x209.jpg\" width=\"300\" was at our favorite cheese factory: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.babyswiss.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Guggisberg Cheese Factory<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chaletinthevalley.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Chalet in the Valley<\/a> restaurant in Millersburg. \u00a0We first met the Guggisbergs when visiting the Covenant church in Millersberg. \u00a0Members of the Covenant church, this Swiss family originated &#8220;Baby Swiss Cheese&#8221;. \u00a0For their whole story, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.babyswiss.com\/our_story.htm\" target=\"_blank\">click on this link<\/a>. \u00a0 \u00a0In the heart of Amish country, the location is beautiful &#8212; so after buying lots of cheese we decided to stay for lunch at their restaurant.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2171\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2171\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2014\/06\/2014-05-crate-OH-5.jpg\"><img id=\"caption-attachment-2171\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hauling the now empty trailer, we stopped at the Guggisberg&#8217;s cheese factory and restaurant.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Before returning home we stopped at my niece&#8217;s home to share our ministry with the congregation of her church. \u00a0It was great fun seeing where her family live, and spending time with my other niece (her sister) and family.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-report-this\"><a
