\u00a0They have excellent fudge, tourist attractions, nature sights, and even a Mystery Spot! \u00a0It&#8217;s just far from GR. \u00a0So when we go, we relish every minute &#8212; and go mad taking pictures!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2014\/05\/2014-03-UP-lake.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2067\" alt=\"2014-03 UP lake\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2014\/05\/2014-03-UP-lake-300x224.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/ziegelbaur\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2014\/05\/2014-03-UP-lake-300x224.jpg 300w, http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/ziegelbaur\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2014\/05\/2014-03-UP-lake.jpg 448w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The lake &#8212; or <a title=\"Wikipedia article about the Straits of Mackinac\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Straits_of_Mackinac\" target=\"_blank\">straits<\/a>, as the water under the bridge is called &#8212; was so calm&#8230; and so &#8230; white!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2014\/05\/2014-03-UP-ice.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2064\" alt=\"2014-03 UP ice\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2014\/05\/2014-03-UP-ice-300x224.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/ziegelbaur\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2014\/05\/2014-03-UP-ice-300x224.jpg 300w, http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/ziegelbaur\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2014\/05\/2014-03-UP-ice.jpg 448w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On closer look, that&#8217;s not water, it&#8217;s ice! \u00a0This is the first time ever we&#8217;ve seen the water under Mackinac Bridge completely frozen!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2014\/05\/2014-03-UP-icebreaker-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2066\" alt=\"2014-03 UP icebreaker 2\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2014\/05\/2014-03-UP-icebreaker-2-300x168.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/ziegelbaur\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2014\/05\/2014-03-UP-icebreaker-2-300x168.jpg 300w, http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/ziegelbaur\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2014\/05\/2014-03-UP-icebreaker-2.jpg 448w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In fact, the only water visible was this trail between Lakes Michigan and Huron made by an icebreaker.<\/p>\n<p>The drive was lovely along Highway #2. \u00a0There&#8217;s virtually no traffic this time of year, unlike peak tourist season in summer. \u00a0Below is a view of Lake Michigan, taken on our way back home, showing how deep the snow has been this winter.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2014\/05\/2014-03-UP-snow.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2068\" alt=\"2014-03 UP snow\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2014\/05\/2014-03-UP-snow-300x224.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/ziegelbaur\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2014\/05\/2014-03-UP-snow-300x224.jpg 300w, http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/ziegelbaur\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2014\/05\/2014-03-UP-snow.jpg 448w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In fact, with no one else on the road, Ron was able to stop and back up to get a better look at this beautiful creature perched in a tree next to the highway.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2063\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2063\" style=\"width: 297px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2014\/05\/2014-03-UP-eagle.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2063\" alt=\"2014-03 UP eagle\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2014\/05\/2014-03-UP-eagle-297x300.jpg\" width=\"297\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/ziegelbaur\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2014\/05\/2014-03-UP-eagle-297x300.jpg 297w, http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/ziegelbaur\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2014\/05\/2014-03-UP-eagle.jpg 336w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 297px) 100vw, 297px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2063\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">American Bald Eagle<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>While driving along the lake in the UP was a beautiful experience, it wasn&#8217;t just a pleasure trip. \u00a0Our destination was the wonderful folks at Mission Covenant Church in Foster City, MI (3 hours west of the Bridge). \u00a0We had a lovely dinner at the home of Pastor Carl and Mary Beth Hammer which gave us an opportunity to get to know several members of the congregation.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2062\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2062\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2014\/05\/2014-03-UP-dinner.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2062\" alt=\"2014-03 UP dinner\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2014\/05\/2014-03-UP-dinner-300x198.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"198\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/ziegelbaur\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2014\/05\/2014-03-UP-dinner-300x198.jpg 300w, http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/ziegelbaur\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2014\/05\/2014-03-UP-dinner.jpg 448w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2062\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Carl &amp; Mary Beth Hammer and a couple of the dinner guests<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>On Sunday we had a chance to share \u00a0about our ministry in Cameroon with the congregation during the service as well as during the Sunday School hour.
