Linda Cannell served churches and theological schools in Canada for about 20 years before joining the faculty of Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois in 1990. While at TEDS, she served as professor of Educational Ministry and directed the PhD in Educational Studies program. From 2006-2008 she served as the Lois W. Bennett Distinguished Professor of Educational Ministry at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, South Hamilton, Massachusetts.  In September 2008 she became the Dean of Academic Life at North Park Theological Seminary, Chicago, Illinois.  Linda also directs the CanDoSpirit Network (www.candospirit.org) which supports such ventures as the Ward Consultation, Common Ground Journal, and MorgenBooks.

Philip Anderson, Professor of Church History at NPTS, was honored by the Swedish government.  The King of Sweden bestowed upon Professor Anderson the insignia of the Royal Order of the Polar Star.  Professor Andersen’s scholarly contributions and his work in “promoting Swedish relations with North America” earned him this prestigious award which is usually reserved for members of the royal family of Sweden or foreign nationals.  Read the full story on the Evangelical Covenant Church website.

Mark Seversen, Pastor of Hillcrest Covenant Church in Prarie Village, KS, will serve as Pastor in Residence Monday, November 17th thru Thursday, November 20th.  Pastor Seversen will preach in Chapel on Thursday. His sermon, The Triumph of Humility, is based on Judges 4-5.  Students, faculty and staff are invited to a lunch forum with Pastor Seversen on Thursday afternoon.  The forum, Left Handed Leadership: Elvis in the Fog of Leadership will take place in Olsson Lounge.  Lunch will be provided.  Pastor Seversen is also available to meet one-on-one with students on Tuesday between the hours of 10:30 am and 5:15 pm.  The sign-up sheet is posted outside of Mary Miller’s office in Nyvall Hall.

Members of the Commission for Biblical Gender Equality (CBGE) will host a lunch forum on Monday, November 10, 2008 at noon in Olsson Lounge to discuss the mission of CBGE and it’s impact on the greater Covenant community.  The dvd Called and Gifted will be shown.  Lunch will be provided.

The seminary community is glad to have Rev. Gary Walter, President of the Evangelical Covenant Church, lead us in chapel on Thursday, October 30, 2008 at Isaacson Chapel in Nyvall Hall.  Gary will preach on select verses of James.  If you are in the area, join us!  There’s even a coffee hour afterward!

The Center for Spiritual Direction at North Park Theological Seminary recently graduated its second class of students on July 27, 2008.

Dr. Linda Cannell has accepted the Seminary’s invitation to an appointment as the Dean of Academic Life. Dr. Cannell follows Dr. Stephen Graham who accepted a position at the Association of Theological Schools.

Dr. Cannell has most recently served as the Lois W. Bennett Distinguished Professor of Educational Ministries at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.  She served from 1990-2006 as Professor of Educational Ministries at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.  From 2000-2006 she was the director of the Ph.D. in Educational Studies at Trinity.  She has served widely as a consultant and workshop leader in both the United States and Canada.  She has also taught and consulted internationally.  She has a long interest in the future of theological education and has served as a board member of the Association of Theological Schools.  She has worked for many years with the development and evaluation of curriculum for such companies as Scripture Press and David C. Cook.  Her research and publications are focused on theological education and on children’s ministry.  A native of Canada, Dr. Cannell received her Bachelor of Religious Education from Central Baptist Seminary in Toronto, a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, and a Master of Religious Education and Doctor of Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.  Dr. Cannell will begin her duties as dean with the new academic year.
