Throughout the Bible, we are reminded that a name is more than just a label for someone. A name is a descriptive identity marker. Calling on God\u2019s Name means calling on God\u2019s complete identity, on the entirety of God\u2019s Three-Person fullness. God\u2019s name tells us who God is.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/40\/2011\/10\/worshipwordle.jpg\" rel=\"prettyPhoto[1720]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1721\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/40\/2011\/10\/worshipwordle-300x205.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"205\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/wc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/40\/2011\/10\/worshipwordle-300x205.jpg 300w, http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/wc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/40\/2011\/10\/worshipwordle.jpg 837w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>This week, the Better Together group bantered on the topic of naming a newly formed worship service (or worship <em>gathering).<\/em> We struggled to find exactly the right word to describe what people could expect when they walk in the door. Should the style of music be emphasized? How do you name worship that includes an eclectic mix of musical styles? One worship leader wrote, \u201cI think labeling them will always fall short and even if it \u2018nails\u2019 it for a time, the label&#8217;s shelf life will be short.\u201d\u00a0 Another added that names might not be as important as content: \u201cYou don&#8217;t need to reinvent the wheel&#8230;just concentrate on making a really good wheel.\u201d\u00a0 And when the term \u201cinformal\u201d came up, one person observed, \u201c\u2019informal\u2019 compared to what? It&#8217;s about being NOT something, not being SOMETHING.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Being something\u2019 is what Christ calls us to do, and that \u2018something\u2019 is Christ\u2019s church: making disciples, baptizing them in the <em>name<\/em> of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey Christ\u2019s commands to love God and neighbor. As we fulfill that calling, the name we use to identify ourselves and our worship can tell the world who we are. What name describes your worship to the neighbors around you? How does that name identify your worship time in all its fullness?
