The first fall I was here, the above phrase caught my attention. Perhaps it grabbed me since fall, books, and food have always been favorites. I don\u2019t do much with sports these days, though memories of horseback riding through the falling leaves or a long run chasing the autumn wind along a scenic road still thrill me. In my free time this fall I\u2019ve been doing a lot of reading, less eating, and some walking. Here\u2019s a poem which willed itself to be noticed, much like a perfect chestnut half hidden in the leaves underfoot.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Harvest of God<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>by Macrina Wiederkehr<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">It was only a small wind,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Rather gentle, like a breeze.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">It blew a strand of hair across my forehead<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">And I knew it was God.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">I was awakened by a tiny gleam of light<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">It slipped through my curtain, onto my face.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">It drew me to my feet and on to the window<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Drawing back the curtains<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Dawn stepped softly into my room.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">I knew that it was God.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">In the middle of my loneliness<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">The phone rang.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">A voice I knew so well, said<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\u201cHello, I love you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Love stirred in my soul<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">I knew that it was God.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Rain fell gently on thirsty ground.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Slowly, carefully, steadily it came<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">To an earth parched with waiting.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Through those raindrops<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">I walked, unafraid &#8211; without an umbrella.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">I knew that it was God.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">It was only a little bitterness I thought<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">But it wouldn\u2019t leave my heart.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">It hung around my soul for ages<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Until a storm came, violent and terrifying.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">It shook me to the depths of my being<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">And blew all the bitterness away.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">I knew that it was God<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">It was only a Silver Maple<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">But in the morning\u2019s sunlight<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">It was filled with heaven.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">I stood in a trance<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">As one touched by angel wings.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">I knew that it was God.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">O God, I cried,\tEndearing One,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">I love you!\tYou cannot hide from me.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Between the cracks of daily life<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">I find you waiting<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">To be adored.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">You slip into my life<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Like night and day<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Like stars and sunshine.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">I know that you are God.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-report-this\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/tajohnson?moderation_action=report_form&object_type=post&object_id=874&width=250&height=300\" class=\"thickbox\" title=\"Report This Post\">Report This Post<\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u300c\u8aad\u66f8\u306e\u79cb\u3001\u98df\u6b32\u306e\u79cb\u3001\u30b9\u30dd\u30fc\u30c4\u306e\u79cb\u300d Autumn is for Reading, Eating, and Sports.
