style=\"color: #888888\">Today marks the fifth day of the Lunar New Year festival where we are.\u00a0 There was an increased level of firecracker noise today, so we looked up this particular day of the festival on Wikipedia to find this:\u00a0 &#8220;This day is the god of wealth&#8217;s birthday&#8230; it is\u00a0common that on the 5th day people will shoot off firecrackers to get his attention, thus ensuring his favor and good fortune for the new year.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888\">So all day we have heard the locals summoning the god of wealth, since about\u00a06am\u00a0and even now, every few minutes, and the ground outside has been covered in red from all the wrappers of the spent fireworks.\u00a0 Everywhere we went today we had a reminder that the people were evoking this god to bring them wealth&#8230; cultural tradition, maybe, but still a bit unsettling.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888\"><a style=\"color: #888888\">The interesting thing to me is that there has literally been no precipitation of any kind (unless you <a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2014\/02\/020414.firstTYsnow-5.jpg\"><span style=\"color: #888888\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-920\" alt=\"020414.firstTYsnow (5)\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2014\/02\/020414.firstTYsnow-5-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/serveglobally\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2014\/02\/020414.firstTYsnow-5-300x225.jpg 300w, since October or November here&#8230; and Dad chooses tonight to send the snow &#8211; and enough to cover everything on the streets.\u00a0 I think maybe Dad is giving a gracious reminder to those who would see it that there is only one God in this world who has power and that power comes through forgiveness.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span
