The Southeast Conference Now Has Two More Trained Spiritual Directors
In July, Jeannie Cheuvront and David Hillberg completed their training at the C. John Weborg Center for Spiritual Direction at North Park Seminary. This is a three year program including a one week intensive class session for three consecutive summers and two years of practicum. We congratulate them on their completion and welcome them to the growing network of directors in the Conference.
This July, David Bowden began his journey in training in spiritual direction as he has sensed God’s calling him into this ministry. David will complete his training in July 2014.
Our Superintendent, Dr. Robert Owens, always speaks of having “healthy pastors leading healthy churches.” One of the ways for a pastor to “be healthy” is through spiritual direction, which is a ministry of a spiritual director prayerfully listening to and sharing in the spiritual journey of another. Together, both are paying attention to God’s presence and movement in the life of the person who is sharing his or her story in order for that person to have a clearer understanding of where God is and how God is moving in his or her life. Each session is about an hour and takes place in a confidential setting. Such a session can also take place over Skype if a pastor and director are not close geographically. This ministry is not only available to pastor, but also to clergy families, church staff and laity.
