\"OLYMPUS<\/a>Recently,\u00a0we\u00a0ventured out\u00a0with another family to an Oktoberfest celebration\u00a0here\u00a0in Chicago.\u00a0 It was SO much fun (viel Spass)!!!\u00a0 We thought it might be a good idea to expose\u00a0G and C\u00a0to some German\u00a0traditions as a part of our cultural preparation.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\"OLYMPUS<\/a>We\u00a0entered\u00a0the big tent (sponsored by a local\u00a0Hofbrauhaus and similar in appearance).\u00a0We were delighted\u00a0to be\u00a0greeted by the sound of\u00a0German polka music\u00a0and the\u00a0smell of fresh baking\u00a0pretzels, schnitzel and potato pancakes.\u00a0 Upon entering the tent, we felt as if we were leaving Chicago and entering old world Germany! We sat down\u00a0at a long, wooden\u00a0table and ordered some food.\u00a0\u00a0We then proceeded to\u00a0munch on our pretzels\u00a0drenched in delicious,\u00a0spicy\u00a0homemade mustard while we were entertained by traditional German dancers.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\"OLYMPUS<\/a>Our oldest daughter loved the dancing so much she went up to the dancers and practically danced with them.\u00a0 One thing we really enjoyed\u00a0was seeing, hearing and smelling what our life could be like (at least in the fall) in Germany.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Truth be told, we\u00a0heard from German friends that\u00a0this festival is not a\u00a0“true German festival”.\u00a0 Bavaria, where the festival is held in the south of Germany,\u00a0is not really Germany (to some)\u00a0because it is south of the Elbe river.\u00a0\u00a0In actuality,\u00a0the Elbe river is in the VERY north of Germany.\u00a0 One thing about Germans is they are very proud of their local heritage. Each city within Germany is like it’s own little country complete with national pride, food and tradition.<\/div>\n
