Wendell&#8217;s selection was anticipated by many given her performance as the team&#8217;s top scoring contributor during last year&#8217;s regular season.<\/p>\n<div>Wendell led the U.S. national team in assists with 16 during a pre-Olympic tour that ended last weekend. The squad finished the Visa Skate to Salt Lake Tour with a record of 21-0-0 after sweeping the Swedish team in four contests. Wendell and her teammates will take a break over Christmas before heading to Lake Placid, New York, December 29-31 for a tournament at the Olympic Center.<\/p>\n<div>The U.S. Olympic women&#8217;s hockey team won the inaugural gold medal in Nagano, Japan, beating Canada 3-1 in the finals in 1998.
