Covenant World Relief\u00a0 is presently not making distributions in Thailand as Food for the\u00a0 Hungry, World Vision and the Thai Government are very involved with\u00a0 significant response. CWR is still researching partnerships in Indonesia\u00a0 and we expect to have resolution the first of the week.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>Evangelical Covenant Church missionaries Don and Lillian Dwight and\u00a0 their five children were vacationing on Phi Phi Island off the coast of\u00a0 Thailand when the massive waves struck the shore Sunday morning. To read\u00a0 a first-person account of that experience, please see <a href=\"\/cov\/news\/item4030.html\">First-Person\u00a0 Account.<\/a><\/p>\n<div>Sundholm expects CWR to be invested in care for this region for months\u00a0 to come. &#8220;Fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) was immediately released from\u00a0 our disaster funds through World Relief on Monday,&#8221; Sundholm noted, an\u00a0 action that drew public praise earlier in the week from World Relief\u00a0 International. &#8220;In all regions, military forces from local and various\u00a0 nations have become involved in distributions &#8211; no international\u00a0 volunteers are requested,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<div>Areas from Thailand to Somalia are struggling in the aftermath of a\u00a0 massive tsunami that destroyed virtually everything in its path Monday\u00a0 morning, resulting in the loss of life that is estimated in excess of\u00a0 117,000 people, according to CNN and the Associated Press.<\/p>\n<div>A magnitude 9.0 earthquake struck about 7 a.m. Sunday and was centered\u00a0 about 100 miles off the coast of Indonesia&#8217;s Sumatra island at a depth\u00a0 of about 6.2 miles. The quake triggered massive waves exceeding 30 feet\u00a0 in height, one news source reported.<\/p>\n<div>Covenant World Relief (CWR) is accepting donations to assist the relief\u00a0 efforts.
