{"id":8388,"date":"2004-12-26T18:42:09","date_gmt":"2004-12-26T23:42:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/newswire\/?p=8388"},"modified":"2011-07-06T08:28:47","modified_gmt":"2011-07-06T13:28:47","slug":"4024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/newswire\/2004\/12\/26\/4024\/","title":{"rendered":"Military Unit Dedicates New Chapel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CHICAGO, IL (December 26, 2004)\u00a0 &#8211; Covenant chaplain Judy Hamrick of Ravenswood\u00a0 Evangelical Covenant Church got an early Christmas present as her unit\u00a0 dedicated a new chapel facility on December 15.<!--more--><\/p>\n<div>&#8220;The Army Chief of Chaplains visited us and participated in the\u00a0 service,&#8221; said Hamrick, a major who is serving in Afghanistan after\u00a0 previously being stationed in Hawaii. &#8220;Our Jewish community leader\u00a0 provided the scripture reading and the Gospel Choir sang &#8216;Lord, Make me\u00a0 a Sanctuary.&#8217; We presented Soldier&#8217;s New Testaments to the Chief of\u00a0 Chaplains, to our local commander for making the chapel such a high\u00a0 priority on the camp projects list, and to the sergeant who was the\u00a0 building project officer for the extra TLC the engineers put into their\u00a0 work.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>Before the dedication service, the Chief of Chaplain&#8217;s Chief of Staff (a\u00a0 priest) conducted a mass in the new facility. A civilian carpenter built\u00a0 the tabernacle for the Catholics and did the &#8216;Good Shepherd carving&#8217; on\u00a0 the front by hand, Hamrick added. Plans are to add marble floor tile and the civilian carpenters are also making some pews.\u00a0 Chairs are also being ordered.<\/p>\n<div>A chaplain for the 25th Infantry Division (Light) Artillery, Hamrick, a\u00a0 native of Kent, Ohio, is currently in her 11th year of military service.\u00a0\u00a0 She earned her undergraduate degree from Nyack College in New York and\u00a0 a Master of Divinity from Alliance Theological Seminary in Nyack with post graduate orientation classes at\u00a0 North Park Theological Seminary in Chicago.
