{"id":8367,"date":"2004-12-20T18:24:54","date_gmt":"2004-12-20T23:24:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/newswire\/?p=8367"},"modified":"2011-07-06T08:28:47","modified_gmt":"2011-07-06T13:28:47","slug":"4019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/newswire\/2004\/12\/20\/4019\/","title":{"rendered":"Wounded Covenanter Recovering in Iraq"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FALLUJAH, IRAQ (December 20, 2004)\u00a0 &#8211; U.S. Marine Lance Corporal Will Duffield,\u00a0 28, son of Covenant pastor Craig and Jeanne Duffield of the Evangelical\u00a0 Covenant Church of Ridgway, Pennsylvania, is recovering at a local\u00a0 hospital after being shot by insurgents in Fallujah recently.<!--more--><\/p>\n<div>Duffield, who has served with the Marines for three years, was\u00a0 conducting hostile searches with his unit on December 11 when he\u00a0 encountered four insurgents. They fired on U.S. troops and Duffield was\u00a0 wounded in the thigh, according to a recent story by the <em>Ridgway\u00a0 Record.<\/em><\/p>\n<div>Corp. Duffield will return to active duty following his treatment and\u00a0 recuperation. Duffield&#8217;s troop had served previously in Hawaii \u2013 Duffield was a company clerk there before coming to Iraq. He will most\u00a0 likely serve in an office capacity once he returns to his unit.<\/p>\n<div>Rev. Duffield spoke to his son last Saturday. &#8220;He&#8217;s doing fine and the\u00a0 pain is not quite what it was at first,&#8221; said the pastor about his son&#8217;s current\u00a0 condition. &#8220;The hardest part for us was last Sunday night (December 12)\u00a0 because we had received a call saying he had been seriously injured.
