CORVALLIS, OR (December 16, 2004)\u00a0 – A new church plant sponsored by the North\u00a0 Pacific Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church \u2013 called “The\u00a0 Well” Covenant Church –\u00a0 conducted its first preview service last Sunday\u00a0 (December 12) at a downtown location with more than 60 people in\u00a0 attendance.<\/p>\n

Church planting pastor Bernd Strom said that the worship service was\u00a0 held at Majestic Theatre’s second floor community room. Strom and his\u00a0 family have lived in Corvallis for nearly five months after serving as\u00a0 an associate pastor at Bethany Covenant Church in Mt. Vernon,\u00a0 Washington. Visitors reflected a wide diversity – friends from his\u00a0 children’s school, colleagues and students he met through his volunteer\u00a0 soccer coaching connections at nearby Oregon State University (OSU), as\u00a0 well as people from the neighborhood. He says it is that diversity that\u00a0 gives him optimism that there is a need for a Covenant congregation in\u00a0 town.<\/p>\n
On January 6, “The Well” Covenant Church will meet again at the Majestic\u00a0 Theatre community room for a second preview service. On February 6, the\u00a0 congregation will meet on the theatre’s first floor main room, which\u00a0 seats 300. It is hoped a grand opening service will occur in April.<\/p>\n
“There were babies, there were college students, there were older\u00a0 couples, lawyers and homemakers, counselors and coaches, Hewlett Packard\u00a0 and OSU employees,” said Strom. “There were folks new to Corvallis and\u00a0 others who’d lived here for years and years, people with physical\u00a0 challenges. We were gathered together for a variety of reasons, but I\u00a0 like to think we gathered in the presence of God to join one another in\u00a0 the journey of life.”<\/p>\n
