{"id":8337,"date":"2004-12-13T18:00:03","date_gmt":"2004-12-13T23:00:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/newswire\/?p=8337"},"modified":"2011-07-06T08:28:37","modified_gmt":"2011-07-06T13:28:37","slug":"4003","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/newswire\/2004\/12\/13\/4003\/","title":{"rendered":"Omaha Student Wins First-Team Soccer Honors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CHICAGO, IL (December 13, 2004)\u00a0 &#8211; Austin Person of First Covenant Church in\u00a0 Omaha, Nebraska, earned first-team honors and Henrik Wihlborg and Matt\u00a0 Moncada received third-team recognition for the Central Region&#8217;s North Division squad via\u00a0 voting by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).<!--more--><\/p>\n<div>Person, a sophomore goalie for North Park University (NPU), posted five\u00a0 shutouts and allowed just 15 goals in 17 games for the Vikings, which\u00a0 finished 14-3-2 overall and won its first-ever College Conference of\u00a0 Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) playoff championship.<\/p>\n<div>A first-team All-CCIW pick, Person had some of his best games when it\u00a0 counted most. He had shutouts in the CCIW playoff semifinals and finals\u00a0 as coach John Born&#8217;s team defeated Elmhurst College and Wheaton College\u00a0 respectively.<\/p>\n<div>Wihlborg, a senior defender from Ljungby, Sweden, helped anchor NPU&#8217;s\u00a0 back row defense, earning his second All-Conference honor earlier this\u00a0 fall.<\/p>\n<div>Moncada, a junior forward from Crystal Lake, Illinois, tallied 14 goals\u00a0 and added six assists to lead all NPU scorers. He has totaled 27 goals\u00a0 and dished off eight assists during his collegiate career.<\/p>\n<div>The NSCAA&#8217;s Central Region has a total of 70 teams, said Central Region\u00a0 committee chair Toby Bares. The committee divided the region into a\u00a0 North and South division and the North division included 37 schools.<\/p>\n<div>NPU earned an academic award recently as the Vikings were among 73\u00a0 schools recognized by the NSCAA\/adidas Men&#8217;s College Team Academic\u00a0 Awards. The Vikings posted a cumulative grade-point average of 3.15 on a\u00a0 4.0 scale, putting them tied for 38th among schools from all NCAA and\u00a0 NAIA institutions.
