Coach Jack Surridge&#8217;s team is now 5-2\u00a0 heading into its Christmas break &#8211; they don&#8217;t play again until December\u00a0 29 at Benedictine University.<\/p>\n<div>Reserve center Cassie Christensen scored eight points in 16 minutes and\u00a0 had six rebounds to tie Laura Mount for team honors. Mount added five\u00a0 points and four assists and Lauren Martin and Megan Slattery had 13 and\u00a0 12 points respectively for NPU, which led 36-19 at halftime and went on\u00a0 a 13-3 spurt early in the second half to put the game away. Angie Brown\u00a0 led IIT (5-6) with 15 points.<\/p>\n<div>Last Thursday, NPU had edged the tourney host, Concordia, 56-54 in\u00a0 overtime behind 19 points and 12 rebounds by Slattery and 14 points and\u00a0 10 rebounds by Shandrel Young. Hunstock had sent the game into overtime,\u00a0 47-47, by hitting a foul shot with five seconds left in regulation play.<\/p>\n<div>The Vikings then went on a 6-0 run to erase a 52-49 deficit in the extra\u00a0 session as Slattery hit a pair of field goals and Mount added two free\u00a0 throws. After a Slattery free throw put NPU up 56-54, Concordia had a\u00a0 turnover and missed a shot as the Cougars attempted to tie the game again.<\/p>\n<div>In St. Louis, the NPU men&#8217;s basketball team split a pair of nonleague\u00a0 games, losing at Webster University 60-55 on Saturday after beating\u00a0 Westminster College 58-49 on Friday. The Viking men are now 3-5 and\u00a0 won&#8217;t play again until hosting Benedictine in a 7:30 p.m. contest on\u00a0 December 18.<\/p>\n<div>Lamar Townsend scored 13 points and Brett Mathisen had 12 points to pace\u00a0 coach Paul Brenegan&#8217;s team in the Westminster win.
