On\u00a0 Tuesday, he was named Academic All-American by the National Soccer\u00a0 Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).<!--more--><\/p>\n<div>Person grew up in Omaha, Nebraska, where he attended First Covenant Church.<\/div>\n<div><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/74\/2011\/06\/1204.jpg\" rel=\"prettyPhoto[8267]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-8268\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/74\/2011\/06\/1204.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"205\" height=\"273\" \/><\/a>I couldn&#8217;t be more proud,&#8221; says head coach John Born. &#8220;Of all the awards\u00a0 he has won this year, I view this as his greatest accomplishment.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div>The junior is the first North Park soccer player to ever achieve the\u00a0 recognition, Born says. Person earlier had been named an Academic All-Region, which is necessary\u00a0 to be considered nationally. At the time, Person said, &#8220;It means more to\u00a0 me than being named to the First Team (All-CCIW Conference) last year.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div>The academic honors are awarded to students who have excelled both on\u00a0 and off the field. The biology major earned a 3.67 GPA in the classroom,\u00a0 was awarded the Excellence in Chemistry scholarship, and is a member of\u00a0 the Tri-Beta Biology Honor Society.<\/div>\n<div>While putting up big numbers in the classroom, he kept his numbers small\u00a0 on the field. He frustrated opposing teams throughout the season, holding them to an\u00a0 average of just 1.09 goals per game.<\/div>\n<div>The 6-foot-5 goalie recorded eight shutouts &#8211; nearly half of the matches &#8211; on the way to an 11-6-1 season in 2005.
