{"id":8199,"date":"2005-12-06T23:47:19","date_gmt":"2005-12-07T04:47:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/newswire\/?p=8199"},"modified":"2011-07-06T08:28:58","modified_gmt":"2011-07-06T13:28:58","slug":"4625","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/newswire\/2005\/12\/06\/4625\/","title":{"rendered":"NPU Athlete Named Player of the Week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CHICAGO, IL (December 6, 2005)\u00a0 &#8211; Viking Bjorn Berg has been named College\u00a0 Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Player of the Week for his\u00a0 outstanding performance that led the team to two victories last week.<!--more--><\/p>\n<div>On Tuesday, Berg put in several three pointers in the last two minutes,\u00a0 including one with seven seconds left, to guide the Vikings to a 76-75\u00a0 victory of Judson College. Primarily a junior varsity player, Berg\u00a0 scored a career high 22 points.<\/div>\n<div>He topped that two nights later with a career high 28 points. He sank\u00a0 four of five free throws in the last 33 seconds against Concordia\u00a0 (Wisconsin) to give the Vikings an 81-80 win.<\/div>\n<div>&#8220;He was well-deserving,&#8221; says head Coach Paul Brenegan. &#8220;It&#8217;s\u00a0 encouraging to see, especially as a senior stepping up his game.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div>Berg was the first Viking named Player of the Week in at least three\u00a0 years. He shared the honor with Rick Harrigan of Augustana.<\/div>\n<div>The Viking women&#8217;s basketball team improved their record to 4-3 after\u00a0 winning two at home over the weekend.<\/div>\n<div>On Friday night, the Lady Vikings topped St. Mary&#8217;s 55-49 in a game in\u00a0 which neither team had a lead of more than eight points. Top scorers for\u00a0 North Park were Megan Slattery with 15 and Shandrel Young with 12.\u00a0 Slattery also pulled down nine rebounds.<\/div>\n<div>North Park defeated Concordia 51-40 Saturday afternoon. The 11-point\u00a0 margin was the largest of the day. The teams were within six points of\u00a0 each other for most of the afternoon. Laura Mount led the Vikings with\u00a0 12 points, and Young scored 10.
