CHICAGO, IL (February 13, 2006) – Hardly a week goes by that we do not receive a few comments from readers on stories published as part of the Covenant online news report.<\/p>\n
We will share from time to time some of those responses generated through the “comments” link attached to each published story. This kind of feedback is very helpful to our Covenant News Service staff as we seek to identify and publish stories of great interest to a broad spectrum of online readers of this report.<\/p>\n
Following are comments relating to recently published stories, edited in some cases for length. To read a particular story of interest, click on the headline.<\/p>\n
War: Death Lurks Just Moments Away<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n K.O. Crosby<\/em>, DDS, of Fresno, CA, writes: I met Jeff and his wife, Rebecca, in Rome in 1993 on the way back from a medical mission. I just found an old Christmas card from them and would really like to get back in touch. I am so proud to have known him. When I was in dental school in San Francisco, I attended the Covenant church there.<\/p>\n CEUM Leaders Being Trained in Business Development<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n Jean-Caleb Mombole<\/em> of Keller, TX, writes: I thank God for the work of the Covenant in that part of the Congo. I am originally from Karawa and was also amazed by the sacrifices of Mike Holmgren, his wife, Kathy, and daughter, Calla, and for the love for our people. May God bless all of them.<\/p>\n Missionary, Daughter, Jailed in Visa Mixup<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n Paul M. Macharia<\/em> of Florissant, MO, writes: Our Congregation is praying for you. That’s all we can do. The story is very touching. God used the occasion for his Gospel and his glory. Praise be to God.<\/p>\n Fun-Filled Evening Honors C. John Weborg<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n Chaplain Bruce Linscheid<\/em> of Westminster, CO, writes: Thanks for the article and the words to the songs. Many of us were not able to attend the dinner, but wished to know more about the event. Keep up the good work!<\/p>\n Kathy Holmgren in Congo during Super Bowl XL<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n Jim Munson<\/em> of Dickeyville, WI, writes: My deepest support and blessings to your efforts in reaching out from within! I am a little biased being a Packer fan, but all that aside, much love and prayers to you and your family!<\/p>\n June Adkins<\/em> of Cadiz, KY, writes: Very refreshing to know that people of this quality are truly concerned for others in this way, and actually put feet on those concerns. God bless the Holmgrens and all those who give of their time and talents in this manner.<\/p>\n Pat Reaves<\/em> of Colorado Springs, CO, writes: I was very much impressed about the Holmgren family. It was just too bad the Seahawks didn’t win, which would have been the icing on the cake. I’m so proud of the witness to the world of this fine family.<\/p>\n Carol Holder<\/em> of Vancouver, WA, writes: I think what you are doing is wonderful and so are the volunteers. May God continue to bless your work there and here.<\/p>\n Fausto Hinojosa<\/em> of Sag Harbor, NY, writes: Amazing! I applaud your efforts and I thank God for the sacrifices you are and have made. It is tragic that stories like this don’t get the air time they truly deserve. What I and many others can do is certainly PRAY for your family, particularly those that may be doing God’s work \u2013 and in harm’s way – that God will continue to protect you and bless you richly for the work you are doing. And pray for us in New York where his work may be as difficult as it is in Africa. I grew up in the Covenant church and remember our church supporting missionaries at the Karawa Mission Station. Keep up the great reporting!<\/p>\n ABC-TV to Feature Holmgren Trip to Congo<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n Wanda Rhiner<\/em> of Fuquay-Varina, NC, writes: I think the entire story is great! I’m not really a football fan and only watched part of the Super Bowl because by husband and sons were watching. It was during those few minutes I was watching that I learned of the mission trip of Mrs. Holmgren and her daughter. I can’t tell you how much this story has blessed me. Their (the Holmgren family) commitment to Jesus Christ and their faith is very visible, and I think it’s wonderful that coach Holmgren hasn’t got his priorities all confused. No doubt the game was very important, but he and his family apparently can see the big picture of the impact they may be making for eternity. Because people have been so intrigued by this story, it also gives me hope that there is still a small glimmer of hope for this country and each generation represented. Although the Super Bowl and football are exciting, this is a story that I would hope many teachers would read to or tell their class about. It shows what wonderful things people do with time, talents and the money that they earn. Kids and parents need to hear success stories about people in the spotlight who are not only doing the glamorous things, but also the caring things. There is so much good that goes on in our country. It is great to hear about it.
