CHICAGO, IL (April 4, 2006) – Three candidates for the position as president of North Park University will visit the campus during the next two weeks to meet with faculty, staff, and students, beginning with one visit today.<\/p>\n
The three candidates are Dr. Mitchel D. Livingston, vice president for student affairs and services at the University of Cincinnati; Paul Maurer, senior vice president for institutional advancement at Trinity International University; and Dr. David L. Parkyn, Provost and senior vice president of Elizabethtown College in Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n
Various groups will meet today with Livingston, who has held his current position at the University of Cincinnati since 1994, also serving on the President’s Cabinet. The university is a doctoral\/research extensive institution with 34,000 students. In his role, he manages a $30 million budget and a staff of approximately 350 in creating visionary and strategic plans that guide a diverse supportive learning environment. He previously served as vice president of student affairs at the State University of New York in Albany and as dean of student life at Ohio State University. He also had a brief experience as the administrative assistant to the president at Southern Illinois University. Livingston earned his Doctorate in Higher Education Administration from Michigan State University and his Master of Science from Southern Illinois University.<\/p>\n
Maurer will visit the campus on Thursday. He has held his position at Trinity since 2002, also serving as president of the Trinity International Foundation. Trinity International University offers undergraduate, graduate and professional programs and is affiliated with the Evangelical Free Church. Current enrollment is approximately 3,000 students at campuses in Illinois, Florida, and California. His responsibilities include directing external relations for the university as well as serving on the President’s Executive Council. Previously, Maurer served as director for the capital campaign at Westmont College, also serving at one time as vice president for development at the National Coalition for the Protection of Children & Families. Maurer earned his Master of Divinity degree from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and is completing doctoral studies in political philosophy this year at Claremont Graduate University.<\/p>\n
On Tuesday next week, Parkyn will visit the campus to meet with various groups. He has held his current position at Elizabethtown College since 2004. Elizabethtown College is a baccalaureate\u2013general institution with an enrollment of approximately 2,000 students and is affiliated with the Church of the Brethren. Previously, Parkyn served 19 years at Messiah College, eventually serving as senior vice president. As Provost, he is responsible for all curricular and co-curricular educational programs. As senior vice president, he serves as the chief operating officer of the institution, overseeing four vice presidents. He had similar campus oversight experience at Messiah College’s Philadelphia campus. Parkyn earned his Doctor of Philosophy degree from Boston College and his Master of Divinity degree from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.<\/p>\n
Each visit will include forums with the respective campus constituencies \u2013 each forum will last 75 minutes at Anderson Chapel. Candidates also will meet with members of the Office of the President and the Executive Cabinet.<\/p>\n
Visits to each of the candidates’ campuses also are scheduled, involving the members of the presidential search committee and the search firm. Reports from these background visits, as well as the candidate visits to the North Park campus, will be discussed by the search committee and Board of Trustees during a scheduled April 20-21 meeting.<\/p>\n
