GRAND RAPIDS, MI (June 16, 2006) – Mary Miller – the first female officer in the history of the Evangelical Covenant Church \u2013 was honored during the denomination\u2019s morning business session as part of the 121st Annual Meeting that concludes tomorrow. <\/p>\n

Miller was secretary of the Covenant and vice president for administration from 1999 to 2005. She resigned to accept a position as director of the Making Connections Initiative at North Park Theological Seminary. The initiative is funded with a Lilly Endowment Grant and is designed, among other things, to fund cooperative work between the seminary and other parts of the denomination.<\/p>\n
Palmberg told the delegates that Miller\u2019s guidance proved invaluable during \u201ca fairly chaotic time in administration,\u201d having helped new officers work through a new constitution early in the president\u2019s first term. Several other denominational officers also were new and likewise relied on Miller.<\/p>\n
One of the best ways to judge an administrator\u2019s work is to look at the staff and its loyalty, said Palmberg, adding, \u201cThere is not a staff more loyal in our building than Mary had.\u201d<\/p>\n
